Magic Hours on Earth
In 2021, Esther was invited to the ‘Vench‘ to run two evening workshops with kids from the local adventure playground . The kids took dusk walks through Stoke Park Estate with Esther in May and played with old analogue cameras, made fires, spoke memories of the wooods, while creating new images based on stories of animal weddings and shapeshifting humans. The kids listened to the trees, felt the soil and blew dandelion heads while the light changed all around and photos were taken. Night arrived and edges and forms fuzzed and blurred. It was magic. An exhibition was later staged in the windows of The Hub and remained up for over a month to be seen by thousands of passers-by.
The workshops were made possible by Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust, thanks to Arts Council England and Bristol City Council. Magic Hours on Earth was made in Stoke Park with Esther and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust.
